Ever wondered what it’s like to live in a 55+ Community in Florida?

Whether you are experiencing the empty nest syndrome, have recently retired, or you are simply looking for a fun lifestyle, an Active Adult Community may be exactly what you are looking for.

Yes, I know, you’ve probably heard many different things about 55+ Communities. But I'm here to set the record straight. If you believe that an Active Adult Community is not for you, that might not be the case!

Here are some of the top misconceptions about living in a 55+ Community in Florida:

1. It’s not for you! You are not in that stage of life yet.

55+ Communities in Florida are formed by a diverse group of people, who are in different stages of their lives. What brings them together is not their age, or what they enjoy doing, but rather a wish to live the life they always wanted and explore new hobbies and activities within their community. They are there to embrace a new lifestyle and have easy access to the activities and amenities they always dreamed of.

2. You have to be retired to live there.

This is probably the biggest misconception people have about 55+ Communities in Florida. People think they can only move to one if they are retired. Not true! A lot of people do move to Active Adult Communities after they retired. That is because they are looking to fill their much deserved free time with fun activities. However, being retired is not a requirement. Many people are still active in their careers. According to Orlando Sentinel, The Villages is the number 1 place for business and career. If you still find yourself working during the week but want to make the best of your weekend or evenings, you should look into a 55+ Community.

3. You have to be wealthy to enjoy the lifestyle.

55+ Communities price range is like Fun Spot, “It’s huge!” You can find more expensive and less expensive homes. You will definitely find something within you budget. 55+ Communities range from modular homes to your ultimate luxury home. Within these communities, many offer extensive activites and ammenities making it more affordable to try new things. Also, some of the favorite activities, like visiting The Villages popular town squares or fishing, are free!

4. 55+ Communities are like assisted living facilities.

One is nothing like the other! Active Adult Communities are actually neighborhoods, almost like any other, except they offer their residents convenience, amenities, and activities. In these communities people come together to discover, or rediscover, fun activities and lifestyles.

5. You have to downsize.

Many empty nesters choose to downsize after their kids move out. They want to own less and have less maintenance. However, you don’t have to get a smaller home just because you are moving to a 55+ Community. Whether you are looking for a luxurious mansion or a smaller, more manageable home, you will be able to find the perfect size home for your wants and needs. This might be the first time in your life you can get the home you always dreamed of!

6. Your grandkids can’t visit or will be bored.

Of course your grandkids can visit. That would be one silly rule! People choose to live in these communities because they are fun places, not because they have strict rules that feel like punishments. Not only can they visit, but there are a ton of activites to keep them busy. If you are considering moving to a 55+ Community, you can plan to have an extra room to accommodate your kids and grandkids when they come to visit you for the Holidays and Spring Break.

All around, Active Adult Communities in Florida, especially The Villages, are designed to provide you the activities you need to live the life you always dreamed of. You’ve worked hard, and now its time to enjoy life.
