With the Halloween season upon us, let's explore the reportedly 'haunted' parts of the communities we call home here throughout Florida!
Here are the top spooky hotspots throughout our favorite Central Florida communities, and the tales of how they became 'haunted' -
Haunted Tea Time in Mount Dora
There is nothing like the British tradition of a relaxing “tea time escape” which can be found at the Windsor Rose Tea Room in Mt. Dora, Florida. Tasty treats and a large selection of flavorful English teas have been reportedly accompanied by an occasional paranormal sighting or two.
Visitors have described witnessing glasses sliding across tabletops and sightings of a female in period costume, making this quaint little English style tea room and restaurant a place to experience a great cup of tea paired with a little “spooky” fun! Photo: Windsor Tea Room
Lady Lake's Local 'Julia'
If you're traveling down Rolling Acres Road in Lady Lake Florida, don’t be startled if you should happen to see a bright ghostly figure of a lady walking along the road on foot.
Locals call her Julia and some have claimed to see her walking up and down the road as if she has lost her way. No one knows when she will appear, but if you should see her, be sure to say hello! Photo: WeirdUS.com
Clermont's Man in Flannel
The Harden House in Clermont Florida was once occupied by John Harden, who unfortunately was not in the right place at the right time in 1975 when he met his demise.
His death has remained a mystery, and for years, his wife and others would profess to see the image of John in a flannel shirt and jeans walking the rooms of the home.
Hospitality Spirits in DeLand
At the no longer operational Old Deland Memorial Hospital part of the empty hospital building is said to be haunted.
Reports tell of transparent figures waving from windows at those passing by and ghostly figures walking the grounds and seen on the ground's gazebo. The hospital also contains a museum - stop by for a visit! Photo: VisitWestVolusia.com
A White Horse in Sanford
Formerly known as the Celery Capital, historical Sanford, Florida sits on the southern shore of Lake Monroe at the head of navigation on the St. Johns River. The road that ran between Sanford and the St. Johns River was once lined with celery fields, and was aptly named 'Celery Road,”Many years ago, a local blacksmith by the name of Sligh Ernest owned one of the largest horses around. It weighed over 3,000 pounds! When the horse passed away, it was buried near Celery Road on an ancient Native American Indian burial ground.
Since then, the road has been widened over the horse’s grave. To this day, sightings in the area have been reported of a Native American dressed in ceremonial attire riding a phantom white horse.
The Lady in White in Downtown Orlando
On the south side of downtown Orlando Florida lies Lake Lucerne, home to the “Lady in White.”
According to urban legend, this ghoulish figure makes her home near the old oak tree on the south shore of the lake. She can best be seen on a pale moonlit night where she strolls past the tree, then soon disappears.
