Spring is the ideal time to be outdoors in Florida and no matter your age, and if you haven’t experienced one of Florida’s National Scenic Trails, be sure to add the Seminole-Wekiva Trail to your “list” of fun things to enjoy as you dust off winter and welcome the warmer weather.
On any given day you may see joggers, bike riders, and nature enthusiasts enjoying the hotspot - but local residents with access to the trail right at home get the most out of this top recreation spot! Find out why so many locals are looking for their next home for sale in Seminole County to enjoy the Seminole-Wekiva Trail year-round.
Why Visit The Seminole Wekiva Trail?
The Seminole-Wekiva trail is a nearly 14 mile paved recreational trail that is one of Seminole County’s “Showcase” Trails thanks to its length, beauty, and accommodation to its users.
It was constructed along an abandoned railroad right of way and runs through commercial and residential areas of Seminole County. From Altamonte Springs to the trail's end at Markham Road trail head, this peaceful alternative gives recreational enthusiast a great place to get away from the everyday bustle of city traffic and noise.
Trail Hotspots
At the halfway mark of the trail is the Shoppes of Oakmonte, located nearby the popular neighborhoor of Heathrow. Two cafes, Panera and The Peach Tree, located within the area offer a variety of different foods, picturesque outdoor seating, and views of the trail.
Other points of interest are canopy-tree lined Markham Woods road, Seminole Soccer Fields, The Seminole County Softball Complex, and Altamonte Park. With parks, dining, and shopping close by, a day on the trail offers a number of hotspots to explore!
Art along the Trail
Beyond nature, the trail also offers noteworthy artwork to enjoy. North of E.E Williamson Road (mile markers 4-4.5), you'll find some interesting fence art - paintings of celebrities and historical figures, along with memorials offering a snapshot of history and pop history.
Recreation for All Ages
Fido loves the trail too - just as long as he's on a leash. And you don’t have to be an adult to love the beauty of the trail - it is also a great place to introduce little ones to nature and wildlife.
Whether you're a runner, a biker, or simply enjoy a leisurely stroll, the trail is the perfect place to spend the day enjoying the great outdoors and exploring loved Seminole County. Also, don’t forget your camera because you never know what kind of wildlife, plants, birds, or beyond you may see on your outing to the scenic Seminole-Wekiva Trail.
Living Near Nature
There are many beautiful Florida home communities located near the trail such as Sanford, Lake Mary, Heathrow, Longwood, and Altamonte Springs. The trail is especially nice for those who live close by. Residents can enjoy the benefits of having a recreational landmark near them, making it the perfect “locale” to experience Florida living at its best.
At the north end of the trail is the desired community of Heathrow with homes and sizes ranging in price and square footage. Across from Heathrow is the newly built community of Steeple Chase, an upscale community of single family homes and home sites. Heading further south along the Markham Woods Road corridor are many luxurious gated communities such as Alaqua and Heathrow Woods.
