Florida Hurricane Prep - Are these items in your emergency kit?

Hurricane_Emergency_Kit_1

It's time to make sure your hurricane emergency kit is prepared.

You probably already know that you need water, food, a full talk of gas in your car, a flash light, and a first aid kit... the essentials when preparing for a hurricane or natural disaster... but there may be some items you hadn't thought of that could come in handy.

Insurance documents (home, auto, medical)

You'll want to have copies of this information handy. Be sure to stick your documents in a resealable bag to waterproof them.

Your pet's vaccination records

Many pet-friendly hurricane shelters will only allow pets if their vaccinations are up-to-date. Do your research ahead of time, and find out what the shelter's near you require.

A list of important phone numbers

Don’t rely solely on your cellphone. It may break, or the battery may die. You never know!

Extra phone batteries and chargers

It's possible that you may lose power. If you were here for the hurricane season in 2004, then you know that some areas didn't have power for weeks. Plan to have extra phone batteries and a car charger.

Battery powered or hand-crank radio

Having the right information at the right time could save your life. Make sure you have access to a radio that doesn't rely on electricity.

Prescription medication

You don't want to be in a situation where you don't have access to important medication. Refill your prescription before the storm arrives.

Cash

If electricity is out, you won't be able to make purchases with your debit or credit cards. Be sure to have cash ready.

It's always important to be prepared! Click here for a full checklist. Stay safe!
