Getting a free tree is one of them! It's all part of the Green Works Orlando Action Plan and the One Person, One Tree Program. Mayor Buddy Dyer commissioned a special program in 2015 to increase The City Beautiful's "urban canopy" or tree coverage. The program provides homeowners with free trees – that's right – free trees!  # Environmental Benefits The One Person, One Tree Program helps to reduce the heat in the city, produce cleaner air, and strengthen our city’s wildlife habitats.  We reached out to the City of Orlando for the inside scoop:  > ### **"**In 2013 the city set a tree canopy goal of 40% by 2040. Programs offered through One Person One Tree will help each person take the individual action of planting a tree so that together we can reach that goal. Trees are still available through [www.arborday.org/cityoforlando](http://www.arborday.org/cityoforlando)," > > ### Ian M. Jurgansen, Sustainability Project Manager, City of Orlando ![Orlando\_Trees\_with\_Flowers.jpg](https://blog.eragrizzard.com/hs-fs/hubfs/Orlando_Trees_7.15/Orlando_Trees_with_Flowers.jpg?width=1024&name=Orlando_Trees_with_Flowers.jpg) # Surprising Benefits to Homeowners For homeowners, having healthy trees, planted in the right places around their home has several surprising benefits: - Trees can reduce your energy costs by providing shade to the home and keeping temperatures down inside. - A mature tree within a homewoner's fence line, can add to the home’s value. - Trees can even keep neighborhood streets safe! Treelined streets have been proven to cut down on residential vehicle crashes and speeding. ## **Thinking about calling Orlando home?** **[Download the Ultimate Guide to Orlando Real Estate](https://info.eragrizzard.com/orlando-real-estate-guide)** to learn more about the homes for sale and the market. **![Orlando\_Trees\_and\_Bench.jpg](https://blog.eragrizzard.com/hs-fs/hubfs/Orlando_Trees_7.15/Orlando_Trees_and_Bench.jpg?width=1024&name=Orlando_Trees_and_Bench.jpg)** # **How to Get Your Free Tree** The [City of Orlando’s website](http://www.cityoforlando.net/trees/) provides in depth information on how to qualify for your free tree.
