With plentiful natural light, state-of-the-art technology and more than double the number of private patient beds from the original hospital, the new Florida Hospital Apopka is a major investment set to benefit the entire community.
After years of diligent planning around the current and future needs of the area, the medical campus opens in December with a seven-story main hospital wing and four-story medical building, bringing a dramatic expansion in medical coverage as well as a significant boon for the local economy. Here is a look at just some of the features that have residents excited, and could have an impact on homes for sale in the Central Florida area.
Vision for the future
The original plan for the new hospital was for an 80-room facility that would meet the needs of the current residents, although the 2014 proposal was soon amended to anticipate the future growth of Apopka and surrounding areas. While the original hospital regularly had to transfer patients to other area hospitals, the finalized plans for the Harmon Road location brought the number of private rooms to 120 (200 total beds), which planners hope will reduce transfers. With the extra investment in the fundamentals, the new Florida Hospital Apopka can focus on keeping residents right in the community while obtaining various levels of medical attention.
In addition to the services offered by the main hospital building, the separate medical building included in the campus will also bring a wealth of other treatment possibilities. Services will include everything from cardiology and urology to imaging and interventional radiology, allowing patients to stay right on-site for most treatments. The campus will also offer sports medicine and outpatient rehabilitation, going well beyond the cutting-edge 50,000 square-foot emergency department that is at the heart of the complex.
Elevating the atmosphere
The current trend with newer hospitals is to highlight natural features that can provide a positive atmosphere for an extended stay or for rehabilitation, which was a main focus of the design of the new Florida Hospital Apopka. As The Apopka Voice pointed out, the "holistic approach" to healing will be front and center in the new hospital, providing abundant interior sunlight and open space to go with landscaping focused on keeping it green.
While these types of features were not as prevalent in previous generations of hospitals, hospital designers have completely rethought the process following landmark studies in the last couple of decades. One influential study found that improvements to physical space can significantly reduce the stress for both patient and healthcare professional while also elevating the overall level of care. The central idea is fairly simple: more space and better design makes it easier to encourage patients to get up and move about, creating a positive environment that can drastically improve a patient's health. The new Florida Hospital Apopka now joins the next generation of hospitals that aims to tap into these findings, making for much more positive experience for every patient and staff member.
All about the community
Florida Hospital has been a hallmark of Apopka for more than four decades, a trend that is sure to continue with the highly anticipated opening of the new location. With access to top-notch healthcare without the hassle of having to transfer for routine testing, the new Florida Hospital Apopka is set to create a lasting connection to the community.
Thanks to the promise of better care along with a significant boost for the local economy, the new facility has an opportunity to be more than just a hospital. It can be a lifeblood for the community for years to come.
More than just great care
As part of a $203 million investment in the area by the Adventist Health System, the new hospital will also bring more than just some of the best healthcare options in Central Florida. An estimated 300 new jobs will go to pharmacists, nurses, and other clinical staffers, although the economic impact will also go well-beyond healthcare professionals.
Thanks to other opportunities in cleaning services, security detail, clerical duties and more, the new hospital will have a far-reaching economic impact on the local community for generations.
Real Estate & New Residents
The growth of job opportunities in the area could also have an impact on local Real Estate, as healthcare professionals and beyond flock to the area for the opportunity of employment at the new facility.
